About SEBA

The Science and Engineering Business Association (SEBA) strives to be the premier organization for developing science and engineering students into business professionals, and to which business leaders come to engage students. SEBA hosts on-campus events for students to meet local and national business and entrepreneurial leaders. We also organize off-campus lunches for students to network with industry leaders, organize professional development workshops, and enable students to attend high-profile business conferences, such as the annual Life Science Innovation Northwest.

From 2019 to 2020, I was SEBA’s Vice President of Membership. In addition to being the point person for UW undergraduate, graduate and professional students to interface with SEBA, I also worked closely with SEBA’s VP of Relations and SEBA’s president to organize UW’s annual Science and Technology Showcase (STS). At STS, a selected group of UW student-led teams compete against one another for funding to start their own businesses. STS 2020 was a fantastic success and featured 18 teams chosen from a record pool of applicants.

From July 2020 to 2021, I was SEBA’s Vice President of Networking. For this position, I organized intimate networking lunches for UW students and leaders in the scientific and business communities. I also organized events that focus on career development. Because of COVID-19 these events all needed to be held online, but we were pleased to discover that this alternative format actually worked beautifully for our members and guests.

Christine (the SEBA VP of Relations) and I worked together for months to make STS 2020 a success. We were so proud of the teams who competed, and so lucky we were able to find such great judges for the event, too!

SENSOL Systems is developing a hybrid solar and LED crosswalk to improve the safety of pedestrians crossing the street. They won the third place prize at STS 2020 — and they gave a great 1-minute pitch (above) too.
